ADVENTURE>
Like all Departing Dystopia experiences, Twisted Tales is a completely unique adventure.
Twisted Tales takes place as part of the Departing Dystopia Saga/Story. It’s an “episode” in this ultimate LARPing (live action role play) adventure we’ve created.
Twisted Tales is our first “two part episode”. It spans two cities! The city of San Diego, where we started this adventure and fabulous Las Vegas where all things unique in the world of entertainment must land!
Twisted Tale is a series of musical short stories which are very loosely inspired by the popular fairytales we all grew up with. Our versions are non-conformist, focus on amplifying the voices of the often misunderstood, and give audiences glimpses into the traumas that may have created the villains you all love to hate. Plus, we take a lot of creative liberties in inventing fan fiction backstories and spin-offs based on the sidekicks and accomplices you never really got the change to know!
BE WARNED: We’re really serving drama and giving Telenovela with this one!
VILLAINS>
At TSIMECA, we believe that everyone has a bit of both hero and villain within themselves. We don’t think of anyone as your typical antagonists. We empathize with your hurt and understand the traumas of your past are to blame.
Being a rebellious outcast misfit isn’t something you chose to be. Amazia gave you that label. With their insidious divide and conquer tactics, they have driven a wedge deep into us all that we can’t even fathom what it would be like to just exist without constantly having to pick a side.
Amazia’s manipulation has exploited humanity's primal animalistic instinct to divide into tribes, exert territorial dominance, and be a willing to kill or die to protect your own. This something we were getting infinitely close to evolving beyond as a species before their soulless policies and ai-run system of government set us back into this Stone Age mentality.
This mentality levels us all trapped in a war of distrust and hostility towards one another. It’s challenging TSIMECA's earnest efforts to reunite us. In other words, we’re all villains in one way or another in someone else’s story. We struggle to regain the empathy we evolved to coexist and share ideas with those who are different from ourselves or disagree with us.
We must put an end to this pain we’re causing each other. Hurt people hurt people.
Read that again.
It’s the idea that we’ve been thriving on the chaos that keeps the community splintered and weak that’s the problem. We must either regain trust and respect for one another. Or admit that we’ve already been defeated by the Amazian Regime. I’ve decided to keep going. I’m doing it not for myself, but for all of us. Hbu?
SIDEKICKS>
Sidekicks matter way more than people tend to realize. They play a crucial role in the storytelling, adding depth and dimension to the narrative. These supporting characters, often overlooked, are pivotal in highlighting the strengths and vulnerabilities of the main protagonists. Through their loyalty, courage, and sometimes unexpected wisdom, sidekicks provide essential support.
They embody the spirit of camaraderie and resilience, showcasing that even the smallest contributions can have a significant impact. By sharing their unique perspectives and experiences, sidekicks enrich the narrative, demonstrating that unity and strength arise from diverse voices working together. Their journeys and personal growth mirror the broader quest for reuniting the ROM community, emphasizing that every individual has a role to play in the fight against division and discord.
ORIGIN STORIES>
What’s your origin story? At Departing Dystopia we help our cast and audiences develop alternate versions of themselves that they can pretend to be in our shared alternate reality. A character’s origin story plays a crucial role in determining how you decide to interact and immerse yourself in our storyline.
Each character’s backstory is a tapestry of personal struggles, triumphs, and transformations (both fictional and real). These origin tales reveal how individuals were shaped by the traumas of our actual reality and the fictional reality in which we blame it all on “The Amazian Regime”.
By delving into characters’ pasts, both our cast and our audience are able to potentially work through some pretty real pain they’ve been experiencing. The safety of the fantasy character and costume we create together seems to make it much easier to face ourselves, removing the walls and masks we wear in real life that often keep us feeling trapped and alone, suffering in silence in our own individual realities.
By sharing our often deeply personal stories in a fantasy environment, know one knows what actually true or how you spun the origin story of the alternate you to protect the real you from revealing more than you feel comfortable with. I know that sounds abstract, once you start to experience the magic of Departing Dystopia, it will all begin to make sense.
We are essentially highlighting the common threads of resilience and longing for unity make us feel most connected to others. It helps us relate to each other. To collectively grow and support each other. To hone our ability to empathize vs judge and categorize. All this shows that despite their differences, all basically want the same things. To be happy and feel loved. Even if you might not currently believe these things are possible, we hope you give us the chance to help you rediscover the sense of childlike wonder and optimism that’s often murdered as we “adult”.

THE BACKSTORY:
TSIMECA has tried everything to reunite the community, but our efforts have largely been in vein. Amazia’s divide and conquer conditioning coupled with our primal inclinations towards war and territoriality seems to run too deep within us all. As a result, vicious rumors, rampant misunderstandings, and flat out lies have created distinct factions within the once unified ROM community.
We haven’t given up just yet though! We have made incredible advances in their Second Reality Tech. It’s becoming harder and harder to distinguish from Actual Reality. We’d really love to share this gift with all ROMs. Our Unification doesn’t have to remain a distant memory or impossible dream. It can happen. At least we hope so. We’ve learned a lot from our recent failures but must remember never to let blind optimism get the best of us again!
That said, this might just be our final effort to establish a delicate alliance between our now waring factions. We really need your support or TSIMECA may just disappear altogether. Leaving Amazia to operate completely unopposed.
We invite ROMs from all factions to join us for an evening of celebrating our differences, embracing our accidental villainhood, amplifying the love and hope that once unified us all, even if only for a tiny moment in time. Everyone deserves a happy ending. Please join us. Let us make things right. Let us always remember. Together We Are Stronger!
MAIN CAST/CHARACTERS: TBD
INTERACTIVE THEATRE>
In "Departing Dystopia," interactive theatre plays a pivotal role in bringing the story to life and engaging the ROM community. This immersive form of storytelling allows participants to step into the narrative, becoming active players in an alternate reality.
Through interactive theatre, the audience experiences the conflict, drama, and hope of TSIMECA's efforts firsthand. They’re not just watching a show. They’re witnessing events as they unfold in a rather improvised fashion. In an ideal scenario, audiences become so fully immersed that it’s no longer a show at all. They are a part of it. It’s happening to them, not just around them. And they are happening to it.
That’s what we mean when we call this an alternate reality adventure!
By breaking the fourth wall, our unique take on interactive theatre is more like LARPing. It dissolves barriers. This encourages participants to see beyond their divisions, envisioning a unified future. This experiential storytelling model not only entertains but also educates and inspires, making the dream of reconciliation and harmony (both internally and externally) feel very real!
